Welcome to my bloggeroo. Stay tuned for quick stories + snapshots of my 4 1/2 month sabbatical in Australia. Commentary, questions, thoughts, ideas and well wishes are encouraged. :) Miss you all very much already!
"Life is either a daring adventure or nothing." Helen Keller
So, the 17-hour flight over was relatively uneventful. I watched Toy Story 3 (thanks soo soo much, Mike!) and slept through all the meals. Typical. I swear the father-son duo sitting next to me thought I was in hibernation. But in the end, I made it safely and soundly and all in one piece. And I even managed to smuggle in Honey Bunches of Oats as a hostess gift for my lovely new roommates.
QUICK ROOMMATE PROFILES:
I should emphasize how incredibly grateful I am to have these two girls as my Sydney friends and tour guides. It's so nice to have fun, easy-going friends who are up for adventures + exploring. They are the absolute best.
CHRISTINA: Wonderful friend from USC -- we had one of our first college classes together (WRIT-140) and traveled in Italy together during study abroad. She was my main inspiration for venturing to Australia! She's currently working odd-jobs here and there, but planning to start a nursing program at Sydney Uni in February. Smart, smart cookie.
KATE: Such a warm-spirited and laid-back girl. Loved her instantly. She's a marketing/advertising superstar and got an Australian company to sponsor her so she can stay in Sydney. Her business card has an adorable picture of her on it (she might disagree).
Highlights of the apartment:
- Incredible location in Paddington. Walking distance from lots of cafes, shopping, bars, markets, etc. And most fortunately, it's very easy to hop on a bus and gallivant to the Harbour or Bondi Beach.
- The shower head doesn't suck. (This is something that's oddly important to me.)
- It's located kitty-corner from an awesome cafe with lightening-speed internet.
- Comes with a class pet. See pictures for a snapshot of Hulk the bunny rabbit. He's precious.
Here are some snapshots of my new neighborhood in Paddington, NSW.
Our cute little townhouse at 22 Albion Avenue. That upper balcony will be mine for the month of September when I sublet from Christina!
A cool old car in my neighborhood (picture for Popsicle.)
Paddington Reservoir. A definite spot for a picnic in the near future.
HULK: the family pet.
